The Storefront Art Gallery.
The Storefront Art Gallery.
Each year, we rent out a storefront to display work made by youth artists. We even allowed artists to sell their work out of the exhibit! Since 2022, we have put on this event in The Cataraqui Mall. The location gives the artists additional foot traffic and allows us to accept more work. This project is always appreciated by the participants and the public alike. Young artists learn about the administrative side of art, the youth project leaders gain curatorial experience, and the public can offer their support to those in their community. A few examples of work we’ve accepted are photos, embroidered patches, jewelry, clothing, and oil paintings. All in all, this is a great opportunity for youth entrepreneurship and artistry.
Youth Project Leader
Emilia Cabrera
(she/her)
Cabrera was one of three project leaders who oversaw the creation of the Storefront Art Gallery last year at the Cataraqui Mall. This year, she has returned to lead the project herself! Since she moved from Chile to Kingston, Cabrera’s passion for the arts has grown to include multiple disciplines. Currently, she enjoys photography, visual art, theatre, and music. When not pursuing these interests, she takes on other creative projects. A few examples include her run as the Assistant Stage Manager for Blue Canoe’s production of “The Lighting Thief”, and her work as Co-Head for her school’s yearbook. She likes to get involved with different artistic projects in her community and has volunteered with the Kingston School of Art and the Calliope Collective. She is looking forward to chairing the gallery for another year.
